Foot and Ankle Specialist Michael Pilkington, DPM, specializes in sports medicine and limb salvage, as well as foot and ankle surgery. Dr. Pilkington completed his undergraduate studies at The University of Utah, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Exercise Physiology. During his pursuit of an undergraduate education, he found his passion for medicine working at the Level 1 trauma hospital, Intermountain Medical Center in Salt Lake City. Dr. Pilkington then went on to earn his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine degree from The California School of Podiatric Medicine at Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, California. Following his commencement of medical school, Dr. Pilkington completed a rigorous and comprehensive 3 year reconstructive foot and ankle surgery residency program at VA Greater Los Angeles and Olive-View UCLA Medical Center, which included rotations at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and Kaiser Permanente Woodland Hills Medical Center.
While in residency, Dr. Pilkington gained extensive training in foot and ankle trauma, sports medicine of the foot and ankle, reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, limb salvage, and wound care. Dr. Pilkington has co-authored several research articles and has given lectures at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. He has also worked closely with the clinical faculty at Western University School of Podiatric Medicine where he helped educate and mentor podiatric medical students in clinic and surgery.
Dr. Pilkington has a passion for helping people get back on their feet. His experience ranges from fast-paced, high volume hospital clinics to one-on-one visits to patients in their homes, always mindful of treating the individual patient’s needs. As an attending physician, Dr. Pilkington continues to serve our nation’s veterans at the Greater Los Angeles Veterans Affairs hospital, and also provides care to the underserved community hospitals and clinics in the Los Angeles area. He enjoys helping a variety of patients achieve their physical health goals through individualized podiatric care. Outside of his career, Dr. Pilkington enjoys spending time with his wife and three young boys. He enjoys music, the beach and exploring the sights and foods of Los Angeles with his family.
